The fundamental tenet of SenGupta’s research mission is to apply principles of physical chemistry and chemical engineering in understanding, developing and implementing sustainable engineering solutions toward prevention of environmental risks.  In the past, SenGupta’s research effort in environmental processes has led to : Synthesis of novel hybrid nano-sorbents, preparation of magnetically active polymeric particles, development of Donnan membrane processes for waste recovery, efficient and high recovery desalination, improved stability of anaerobic biological reactors, tailored polymeric ligand exchangers, carbon dioxide sequestration aided by ion exchange fibers, sustainable arsenic removal systems in developing countries, energy recovery from pollution control processes, elucidating sorption mechanism for inorganic and organic trace contaminants and others.
